36 suspects arrested over lynching of police officer at Gindabour

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, a police officer named General Constable Redeemer Owusu was killed and another motorbike rider died after a mob allegedly lynched them. This incident happened during a routine highway patrol in the Gindabour area of the Savannah Region. The officers were patrolling the Gindabour–Kenkyen community road when they spotted the motorbike rider who suddenly changed direction into the bushes.

Upon suspicion, they followed and found the rider unconscious, transporting him to a hospital where he later died. The officers then tried to take the deceased rider to the hospital when the mob attacked them, causing General Constable Owusu's death and injuries to other officers. The police vehicle was also damaged. Both deceased victims were taken to the Damongo Morgue for further examination.

The Inspector-General of Police deployed additional investigators and intelligence officers to investigate the incident and identify those responsible. Reinforcements from various regions were also sent to secure the area. The 36 suspects involved are currently in police custody and will face court proceedings. The Savannah Regional Police Command condemned the attack and vowed to pursue the case according to the law.
