Zack Snyder Says He’s Not a Fascist Because 300 Is “One of the Gayest Movies Ever Made”

Direct criticisms of Zack Snyder's upcoming film, The Last Photograph, include accusations that he is a fascist. This assertion, made by online skeptics, does not resonate with Snyder, who credits his 2007 film 300 as evidence of his pro-gay stance. When asked by interviewer Marlow Stern if "300" is the gayest movie ever made, Snyder affirmed, "300 is one of the gayest movies ever made."

The director explained that many narratives feature characters transitioning from one sexual orientation to another, and 300 is one such example. Despite the buff and nearly naked male cast, Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's comic faced similar backlash at the Berlin Film Festival. The movie was met with immediate discourse, with audiences booing and walking out, labeling it a "disaster," "the worst movie ever," and a "fascist" film.

Snyder and his team were bewildered by the reception, prompting a press conference to address the concerns. Reiterating his stance on his political beliefs, Snyder acknowledged that his upcoming projects, including a potential Rick and Morty movie and an adaptation of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, will not alleviate the right-wing allegations.

However, he remains optimistic about the potential success of his magnum opus. The fate of The Last Photograph remains uncertain, as a theatrical release has not been set. Additionally, Snyder is reportedly directing a remake of Escape from New York.
