“You can’t take our GH¢82m and run away to Nigeria” – Roads Minister fires Enchi–Elubo road contractor

Ghana's Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the contractor of the Enchi–Elubo road, Top International Engineering (Gh) Ltd. The contractor had been awarded the project in the Western North Region but has made minimal progress despite receiving GH¢82 million. The Minister claims the owner of the company has not attended previous summonses and is more focused on other matters in Nigeria.

Agbodza is particularly concerned that the contractor has not shown sufficient progress, as the government now has a bond that could recover the funds if the contract is terminated. He also criticized the poor state of the road and the inadequate infrastructure works completed along the route, with several communities still lacking essential drainage.

The Minister visited the area in May and heard residents' concerns about the road's condition. He instructed the contractor to return to site and appear before authorities to explain its progress. Agbodza warned that the contractor will lose its contract for the 71.25-kilometre Enchi–Elubo road project if it fails to show up before the Ministry by Friday.
