Why I stepped back from criticising government — Mr Macaroni

Nigerian actor and social commentator Mr Macaroni, also known as Adebowale Adedayo, has revealed why he has reduced his public criticism of the government. In a series of posts on X, he explained that the fatigue from repeating the same messages, backlash from citizens, and threats he faced were the main reasons for his decision.

The actor spoke about the personal cost of his activism, mentioning that he received life threats over the EndSARS protests. He noted that despite the ongoing issues, saying the same thing repeatedly is tiring. Mr Macaroni also highlighted the need for Nigerians to move beyond a "survival mentality" and demand an enabling environment for success.

He expressed concern about the impact of the political environment on individuals he admired, who had entered politics and potentially damaged their legacies. The actor continued to speak out despite the threats and concerns raised by his family, but his reduced commentary was also influenced by his perception of how it affected his public image.
