War-damaged Gaza building collapses, killing 12 people seeking shelter inside

Gaza rescuers searched through the debris of a bombed apartment building that collapsed overnight, resulting in the death of at least 12 Palestinians, including five children, and leaving dozens more trapped beneath the rubble. This tragedy underscores the continued peril faced by tens of thousands of Palestinians inhabiting approximately 2,000 damaged structures following Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.

Civil defense rescue workers reported that the seven-story building's collapse claimed the lives of twelve individuals, including five children, and inflicted injuries on fourteen others. An estimated one hundred people remained trapped under the rubble. A Reuters video captured rescue personnel attempting to extricate two people from beneath a collapsed wall.

Another video, shared on social media, depicted Gaza's civil defense spokesperson, Mahmoud Basal, carrying a young girl, covered in a blood-stained scarf, in his arms. Raed Al-Dahshan, director of Gaza City's civil defense service, stated that the collapsed building housed ten families, and there was still a possibility of discovering survivors.
