Wan Junaidi calls for mature, inclusive Malaysia as nation marks Malaysia Day

KUCHING, Sept 16 — In his message marking the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration, the Yang Di Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, called for a mature, inclusive Malaysia as the nation reflects on its progress. He emphasized that true advancement hinges on maturity, wisdom in managing diversity, and not merely economic growth or physical development.

Wan Junaidi stressed that Malaysia must rise to the challenges posed by global competition, driven by artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and geopolitical shifts. Rather than merely adapting to change, the nation must become a creator of future advancements. He urged Malaysia Day to serve as a reminder that inclusive growth is essential, ensuring that the elderly, persons with disabilities, rural communities, and vulnerable groups also benefit from the nation's prosperity.

Wan Junaidi advocated for a continuous culture of excellence across all sectors, including education, research, sports, arts, and public service. He envisioned more young Sarawakians excelling as scientists, engineers, tech founders, researchers, social entrepreneurs, and community leaders on the international stage.
