Volvo Malaysia rolls out electric EX30 Cross Country

Volvo Malaysia has launched its first electric vehicle, the all-electric compact SUV known as the EX30 Cross Country. The locally assembled car is geared towards urban driving and light off-road use. It can be found for sale at dealerships across the country, starting at a price of RM218,888, not including insurance. This marks the beginning of Volvo's Cross Country range, featuring fully electric power.

The EX30 Cross Country adds an extra layer of off-road capability to the standard EX30 model, thanks to increased ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and a few aesthetic tweaks. Under the hood, it boasts a twin-motor all-wheel-drive system, generating 428 horsepower and 543 Newton-meters of torque. This setup allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

Its electric battery, a 69kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt unit, can recharge from 10-80 percent in as little as 27 minutes using a 175kW DC rapid charger. It also boasts a driving range of up to 437km on a single charge, according to WLTP testing standards.

When compared to the standard EX30, the Cross Country offers 19mm more ground clearance. Its chassis and wheel configuration have been redesigned to enhance ride comfort and stability on uneven terrain. The car also features a multitude of sensors and radar systems, enabling 360-degree environmental awareness. The vehicle is also equipped with Volvo's array of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies.

Chris Wailes, the managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand, noted that the EX30 Cross Country is well-suited to Malaysia's mix of urban settings and access to natural landscapes. The interior of the car is minimalist, featuring upcycled denim textiles and a bio-attributed Nordico upholstery. Its infotainment system includes Google services through a 12.3-inch center display, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The model offers a cargo capacity of 318 liters with all seats in place, rising to 718 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Storage options include larger door compartments, a central storage area, and a removable rear storage box. The vehicle is available in Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and Cloud Blue.

Volvo also announced revised pricing for the EX30 Ultra, which now begins at RM198,888, not including insurance. The model is available in four exterior colors. This launch also marks the introduction of Volvo Car Malaysia's Digital Service Booking platform. This new feature allows customers to book post-purchase services through the company's website or the Volvo Cars app. The service is currently available at authorized dealerships in the Klang Valley, with plans to expand nationwide.
