Mahama Breaks Ground For Airport Garden City

President John Dramani Mahama ceremonially broke ground for the Airport Garden City project in Accra, a large-scale mixed-use development that is anticipated to generate over 3,000 employment opportunities for Ghanaians. The venture, being spearheaded by the Sentuo Group, is branded as "The Garden Above Accra" - an all-encompassing community incorporating residential units, a hotel and conference center, healthcare institutions, retail outlets, gardens, and recreational amenities. The sod-turning event also inaugurated the project's sales office.

Addressing the attendees as the main speaker, Mahama applauded the Sentuo Group for their persistent investment in Ghana, highlighting such ventures as crucial for national progress. He reassured prospective investors of the government's unwavering assistance for projects that generate jobs, spur economic activities, and foster growth.

Xu Ningquan, the Executive Chairman of Sentuo Group, stated that the initiative will furnish employment for craftsmen, technicians, engineers, hospitality experts, and administrators. He added that the vast majority of the positions will be allocated to Ghanaians, with apprenticeships and practical training programs devised to equip the youth with marketable skills.

Xu further noted that international specialists engaged in the project will be tasked with transferring knowledge and competencies to their Ghanaian counterparts to ensure enduring local advantages.

The Minister for Works and Housing, Ahmed Ibrahim, seized the opportunity to advocate for vertical expansion as a remedy to Ghana's housing shortfall, particularly in Accra, where land scarcity is rampant. He argued that vertical development optimizes scarce land resources and expands housing prospects, stressing that Ghana remains an enticing investment locale and that public-private alliances are pivotal in augmenting housing stock.

Sentuo Group also vouched for affordability, transparent pricing, and crystal-clear contractual conditions for purchasers, encompassing complete elucidation on property entitlements, payment commitments, delivery schedules, and post-handover services. The development will also exhibit Ghanaian ingenuity through its landscaping, art, interior decoration, cuisine, and hospitality services.

Xu expressed the Group's growing confidence in Ghana due to its past investments in steel, ceramics, and oil refining. He emphasized that the triumph of Airport Garden City will be gauged by the number of Ghanaian jobs generated, local business contracts secured, skills developed, and homes delivered.
