Varshney re-appointed as SEBI whole-time member till 2029

Kamlesh Chandra Varshney has been re-appointed as a Whole-Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) until 2029, according to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The 1990-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, who took charge as a WTM in September 2023, will serve until he reaches the age of 65 or earlier, if directed.

Varshney's appointment comes after the government invited applications for two WTM positions at SEBI, as their terms were nearing completion. He has been actively involved in SEBI's enforcement actions, including an interim order against Copthall Mauritius Investment and Mansi Share and Stock Broking for alleged manipulation during the closing auction session.

Varshney heads various departments, including corporate finance, corporation finance investigation, integrated surveillance, and legal affairs.
