US biotech CoreFX chooses Cork as its European R&D HQ

U.S. biotech company CoreFX has announced it will establish its European Research and Development (R&D) headquarters in Cork, Ireland. CoreFX specializes in developing additive powders for the health and wellness sector, aimed at enhancing nutrient availability, absorption, and impact. The company operates across North America and Europe, with three facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin, USA.

The Cork facility, operated in collaboration with Teagasc Moorepark and Enterprise Ireland, will bolster CoreFX's efforts to advance technologies that improve shelf life in nutritional supplements.

CoreFX founder and CEO Denis Neville, a UCC (University College Cork) graduate in food science and technology, emphasized the strategic importance of Cork as Ireland’s global hub for food science and biotechnology. Neville highlighted the company's long-term commitment to Ireland, stating that the decision was driven by Ireland’s globally recognised strengths in these fields, not just personal connections to the country.

Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, TD, praised the investment as a "strategically significant" development for the country. He highlighted how CoreFX’s move aligns with Ireland's position as a leading centre for biotechnology and innovation. Mark Christal, executive director of Enterprise Ireland, expressed enthusiasm about the company's growth and the role this new Irish headquarters will play in further advancing Ireland’s biotech and food science sector.

The Cork facility will initially employ a team of three scientists. This strategic move is expected to accelerate the transition of CoreFX's breakthrough nutritional technologies from research to commercial applications across Europe and beyond.
