Unifor urges government to prevent sale of Stellantis’ Brampton, Ont., plant

Unifor, the union representing Canadian workers at Stellantis, is urging the federal government to prevent the sale of the Brampton, Ontario assembly plant to Canadian armoured vehicle maker Roshel. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly was informed of the union's concerns in a letter from Unifor's national president, Lana Payne. Payne warned that if Stellantis proceeds with the sale, it would abandon vehicle production at the plant, leaving over 2,000 employees unemployed and impacting nearby suppliers with thousands of workers.

Payne requested clarification on the federal government's role in the potential sale discussions and whether any Memorandum of Understanding between Stellantis and Roshel may have violated the commitments the automaker has made to the government. The current collective agreement between Stellantis and Unifor is set to expire on September 20, 2026.
