Uefa on track to find credible challenger to Infantino

Uefa remains confident in its efforts to find a viable challenger to Fifa president Gianni Infantino, according to vice-president Laura McAllister. Speaking at the World Football Summit in Madrid, McAllister emphasized that the candidate for next March's election need not be European but must have the ability to defeat Infantino, unite football's confederations, and implement lasting governance reforms.

McAllister clarified that Uefa's campaign is not about installing a European figurehead but rather building support for a reform-minded candidate. She rejected suggestions that opposition to Infantino has lost momentum, stating that Uefa and the other confederations strongly believe in the need for change. Uefa is not insisting on a European challenger if a credible reform candidate emerges from another confederation.

The focus is on the reform program, including greater accountability, transparency, conflict-of-interest protection, whistleblower safeguards, and diverse leadership.
