Tuanku Muhriz bukan lagi Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, kata exco

The removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan in April was deemed valid by the Exco. The statement said Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar now holds the title of Yang Dipertuan Besar. The proclamation of Tuanku Muhriz's abdication under Article 10 UUTKNS 1959 dated April 19, 2026, was signed and certified by YTM Undang Luak who has the authority to do so.

The prerogative of choosing and removing the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan is a fundamental prerogative of the Yang Empat, which is guaranteed by Article 32 and Article 79 UUTKNS 1959 and Article 71 and 181 of the Constitution. The proclamation was also signed by the Chief Minister Ismail Lasim on August 3, 2026, making the proclamation complete under Article 10(2) UUTKNS 1959, the statement said.

The statement was made two days after the State Law and Justice Court in Negeri Sembilan affirmed Tuanku Muhriz's continued status as Yang Dipertuan Besar and the campaign to remove him early this month was found invalid. During a media briefing together with three individuals who claimed to be undangs in April, Mubarak Dohak, who claimed to be Undang Sungai Ujong, announced the ouster of Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Two months later, Tuanku Nadzaruddin was declared as the 12th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan in a ceremony at a five-star hotel in Melaka. Last week, four individuals submitted a declaration to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar, signed by the newly appointed Chief Minister, Ismail Lasim. However, Ismail said he was forced to sign the declaration and claimed the document was invalid.

As for the status of Tuanku Nadzaruddin, Exco said the proclamation of his election under Article 11 UUTKNS 1959 dated April 19 was also signed and certified by the Undang Luak who is valid.
