Tuanku Muhriz bukan lagi Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, kata exco

The abdication of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan in April last year was deemed valid by the Exco. In the statement, the Exco said Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar is now the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. The proclamation of Tuanku Muhriz's abdication according to Article 10 of the UTNS 1959 (The Constitution of the Government of the State of Negeri Sembilan) was signed and certified on April 19, 2026, by YTM Undang Luak, which was valid and had authority.

It was the prerogative of the absolute Undang Four to choose and abdicate the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, and this prerogative was guaranteed by Articles 32 and 79 of the UTNS 1959, as well as Articles 71 and 181 of the Federal Constitution. The proclamation was also signed by the Chief Minister Ismail Lasim on August 3, 2026, making the proclamation perfect according to Article 10 (2) of the UTNS 1959, said the statement.

The statement was made two days after the Court of Justice and Law of Negeri Sembilan affirmed that Tuanku Muhriz remained as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of the state and tried again to remove the monarch early in the month. During the media briefing with three individuals claiming to be undang in April last year, Mubarak Dohak, who claimed to be Undang Sungai Ujong, announced the dismissal of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Two months later, Tuanku Nadzaruddin was declared as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan No. 12 in a ceremony at a five-star hotel in Melaka. Last weekend, four individuals submitted a proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar, which was signed by the current Chief Minister, Ismail Lasim. However, Ismail said he was forced to sign the proclamation and stressed that the document was invalid.

Regarding the status of Tuanku Nadzaruddin, the Exco said the proclamation of his election according to Article 11 of the UTNS 1959 on April 19 was also signed and certified by the Undang Luak, which was valid and had authority.
