Tinubu pledges to end child labour, unveils four-year action plan

Bola Tinubu has declared the elimination of child labour a top national priority in Nigeria. At a National Dialogue in Abuja, Tinubu unveiled a four-year action plan to tackle the issue, which he linked to education, poverty, economic growth, food security, human capital development, and national security. The Federal Government plans to strengthen labour administration, child protection mechanisms, and interventions targeting poverty, unemployment, and inadequate access to quality education.

Tinubu emphasized that education is a key safeguard against child labour and that the government is implementing reforms to address out-of-school children and improve school attendance. The administration also launched the 2024 National Child Labour Survey Report and the National Policy and National Action Plan for the Elimination of Child Labour (2026-2030).

Tinubu called on all stakeholders, including state governments, employers, workers' organisations, and development partners, to support the implementation of the plan and help ensure every Nigerian child has access to education, protection, and a childhood free from exploitation.
