There's high possibility of transport fare increment; our proposal remains 30% for now - GPRTU

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) remains optimistic about a potential fare increase, pending the outcome of a committee review, according to Deputy Public Relations Officer Samuel Amoah. The union submitted a proposal ahead of the current pricing window, which led to negotiations with the Ministry of Transport. Both parties agreed on forming a committee to assess various cost inputs and submit their findings, with the expectation of a report being available before the close of the week.

Amoah stated that the GPRTU would consider the committee's recommendations before deciding on the extent of any fare adjustment. Currently, the union maintains its initial proposal for a 30% increase in transport fares. However, negotiations are still ongoing, and the final decision has not been made. Commuters may face higher transport fares once the negotiations conclude.

Petrol prices are expected to rise by approximately 9.63%, diesel by 6.97%, and LPG by 3.22%, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). Based on COMAC's projections, petrol could reach GH¢17.23 per litre, diesel GH¢18.35 per litre, with minimum prices of GH¢16 per litre for petrol and GH¢16.77 per litre for diesel under the National Petroleum Authority's (NPA) price floors for the second pricing window of September.
