Thane Municipal Corporation Launches Major Crackdown On Illegal Water Connections In Mumbra, Diva; 29 Unauthorised Tappings Disconnected

Thane Municipal Corporation has launched a major crackdown on illegal water connections in the Mumbra and Diva wards, disconnecting 29 unauthorized taps as of September 16, 2026. The drive targets unapproved tappings along main supply pipelines from Kalyan Phata to Y-Junction and up to the Mumbra Fire Brigade. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao initiated the enforcement effort on September 11, 2026.

In Diva Ward, 13 connections were cut at Bholenath Nagar Nallah, 6 at Gulistan Hotel Nallah, and 1 near Shilgaon Temple. Mumbra Ward saw 7 connections disconnected at Mittal Ground Nallah and 2 at Global Nallah. The TMC has also filed criminal cases against those involved in illegal water tapping along the main pipeline between Kalyan Phata and Y-Junction. Enforcement involved TMC officers, engineers, and a large police presence to avoid disruptions during the operation.

The campaign, led by Deputy City Engineer Vinod Pawar and other officials, began with 16 disconnections on September 8 and 15 on September 11. To prevent illegal pipelines from being re-established, the TMC has implemented strict measures such as 24-hour clockmen at vulnerable locations, CCTV cameras along critical pipeline routes, increased police patrol, and regular patrols by Water Supply Department plumbers and security personnel.

The crackdown aims to prevent illegal water theft and ensure a stable water supply for residents in Mumbra and Diva.
