Thai AirAsia to end Don Mueang-Incheon route after 12 years

Bangkok — Thai AirAsia will permanently terminate its direct Don Mueang-Incheon service starting October 25, concluding a 12-year route marred by soaring fuel costs, shifting travel habits, and fierce competition. The airline plans to redirect its aircraft and resources towards domestic flights and booming markets in Vietnam and other CLMV countries.

Thai AirAsia disclosed a net loss of 2.326 billion baht in the second quarter of 2026, driven by a 43% surge in jet fuel expenses. The airline also reduced its capacity by 13% during the period. The Don Mueang-Incheon route has suffered from declining demand, especially among Thai travelers. South Korean news reported that at least 91 Thai group tours, including 9,947 passengers, canceled their trips to South Korea in 2023 due to challenges with the Korea Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA).

The route was initially served daily with Airbus A320neo aircraft, with flights FD677 from Don Mueang to Incheon and FD678 for the return trip. Passengers with bookings on the affected flights have four options: a free date change before October 24, a full refund, a credit account for future bookings, or a reroute via Kuala Lumpur.

The airline is also trimming capacity in highly competitive international markets while zeroing in on routes with robust demand and returns.
