Taraba govt intensifies school monitoring, warns teachers against absenteeism, insubordination

The Taraba state government has ramped up inspections of secondary schools throughout the region, issuing stern warnings to teachers and administrators regarding absenteeism, tardiness, subpar lesson preparation, and insubordination. The intensified monitoring took place on Tuesday, led by officials from the Ministry of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, under the direction of Commissioner Dr. Augustina Godwin, Permanent Secretary Alhaji Idris A. Goje, and Secretary Mrs. Rabi Sunday.

According to Godwin, the objective of the exercise was to evaluate teachers' attendance, lesson preparation and delivery, student academic activities, school administration practices, and adherence to government directives following the reopening of schools.

Reacting to the results of the monitoring, Godwin expressed worry over practices that could hinder effective teaching and learning in the state. She emphasized that teachers are responsible for molding the futures of Taraba children and must therefore exhibit dedication, professionalism, discipline, and accountability. The Permanent Secretary, Idris Goje, promised that the Ministry would not permit indiscipline, absenteeism, or insubordination to take root in the state's educational system.

He stressed that government resources and efforts in the education sector should not be jeopardized by individuals neglecting their official duties.

Secretary Rabi Sunday addressed school principals, urging them to lead effectively and ensure their teachers comply with rules and regulations. She also called on teachers to respect authority and contribute positively to their schools' administration and academic progress. Sunday announced that the findings from the monitoring would be thoroughly documented for follow-up and necessary administrative action.

She affirmed that school monitoring would continue as an ongoing process, with the Ministry visiting schools across Taraba to assess compliance, identify challenges, and enhance the quality of education.

The Commissioner also encouraged teachers, principals, and other stakeholders to support education reforms initiated by Governor Agbu Kefas by demonstrating greater commitment to their responsibilities. She stressed that the administration is determined to establish an educational system where teachers are accountable, administrators are responsible, and students are supported in a disciplined and conducive learning environment.

She urged education personnel to view their roles not merely as government employment but as a duty to the children and the future of Taraba State. The three teams conducting the monitoring were accompanied by directors, deputy directors, and quality assurance officers from the Ministry.
