Sunny, the Obamas' loyal dog, dies at 13, reuniting with Bo in memory: ‘Will miss her terribly’

The Obamas' family pet dog Sunny has passed away, former President Barack Obama announced on social media. Sunny, a 13-year-old Portuguese water dog, had been a companion to the Obamas since they began their second term in the White House in 2013. "We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love," Obama expressed on social media.

The dog was known for being athletic, full of energy, and protective of Obama's earlier dog, Bo. Despite being a Portuguese water dog, Sunny had a dislike for getting wet. The family mourned the loss of their beloved pet, imagining Sunny was now with her brother, ensuring his well-being. Bo had passed away in 2021. While many presidents have kept dogs as companions during their tenure, current President Donald Trump currently does not own any pets at the White House.

Previous presidents such as George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Harry S. Truman also had dogs, with some of their pets leaving a significant impact, like Millie's book, Buddy's presence during a scandal, Barney's webpage and viral videos, and Johnson's controversial actions towards his beagle.
