Sterling admits dangerous driving after highway collision

Former England footballer Raheem Sterling admitted to dangerous driving in court on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Sterling pleaded guilty to driving a Lamborghini recklessly on a motorway, which subsequently crashed. He also admitted to possessing six nitrous oxide canisters for inhaling and failing to provide a specimen for drug analysis.

The incident occurred on May 28 when Sterling crashed his £270,000 Lamborghini near the M3 in Hampshire. Witnesses reported seeing the driver swerving between lanes and nearly colliding with the central reservation, as well as inhaling balloons while driving. Sterling's car veered off the carriageway, crashing into roadside infrastructure, and all four tires were blown out.

The driver refused to provide a blood sample for further examination. The incident resulted in a maximum potential prison sentence of two years, though a sentence of 12 to 18 months is more likely. Sterling was released on unconditional bail and his driving license has been suspended. Sterling is currently without a football club.
