Sharjah tourism set for faster growth as new destinations and infrastructure expand

Sharjah is embarking on a new era of tourism growth, with significant developments set to enhance the emirate's appeal to both domestic and international visitors. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, revealed during the 33rd Arabian Travel Market that several projects are in the pipeline to bolster Sharjah's position as a top destination over the next decade.

Al Midfa noted a surge in domestic tourism, driven by staycations and international travelers, as well as the expansion of the emirate's tourism infrastructure.

The Central Region and East Coast, including key locations such as Khorfakkan, Kalba, and Dibba Al-Hisn, are garnering increased attention. These areas provide unique experiences and benefit from ongoing infrastructure enhancements, making them more accessible for tourists. The chairman also highlighted the expansion of Sharjah International Airport, which is projected to raise its annual passenger capacity to 25 million by the end of 2027.

This development, together with other infrastructure improvements and new tourism projects, is set to accommodate the anticipated rise in visitor numbers.

Despite the advancements in tourism infrastructure, Al Midfa emphasized that Sharjah's cultural identity remains its foundation. The emirate's tourism strategy revolves around its rich cultural and family-friendly offerings, encompassing a variety of heritage, archaeological, and cultural experiences. Additionally, health and leisure activities contribute to the overall tourism appeal.
