SBCA asks owners to implement fire safety measures at their factories

Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has issued urgent directives to factory owners across the province, emphasizing the critical importance of fire safety measures in industrial settings. These directives have been complemented by the placement of advisory banners in factories, urging owners and management to adhere to fire safety protocols and take prompt preventive actions.

The SBCA stressed that safeguarding human lives is of paramount importance and has issued comprehensive guidelines for factory owners. These guidelines include obtaining an AOP/Occupancy Certificate from the relevant authority for industrial premises without delay, installing approved firefighting equipment and modern fire safety systems, ensuring their proper maintenance and functionality, and maintaining clear, unobstructed emergency exits for safe evacuation during emergencies.

Factory management is also required to provide a sufficient number of easily accessible fire extinguishers, conduct regular checks for functionality, install reliable fire alarm systems with regular maintenance and testing, and ensure safe electrical wiring by preventing overloading and carrying out regular electrical inspections to identify and address potential hazards.

The authority urged all factory owners and management to prioritize the protection of lives and compliance with safety regulations, calling for collective efforts to foster safer industrial environments and enhance fire safety standards throughout the province.
