Sarawak wants to continue prospering within Malaysia, says premier

Sarawak's premier, Abang Johari Openg, has expressed optimism that his administration will continue to contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of Malaysia. Speaking at the national-level Malaysia Day celebrations in Kuching, Openg stated that the state's economic development plans encompass strengthening sectors such as energy, industry, and technology, as well as expanding regional development. These plans aim to ensure that Sarawak remains an essential player in the nation's economic success.

Openg emphasized that the progress achieved by Sarawak should not only benefit its people but also contribute to Malaysia's development and prosperity as a whole. He also welcomed the federal government's commitment to fulfilling the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which includes maintaining equitable parliamentary representation and determining a revenue-sharing formula with Sarawak.

Furthermore, Openg highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, as these measures will foster stronger collaboration between the federal and Sarawak governments.

The premier expressed hope that recognizing the rights and special privileges of Sabah and Sarawak will become an integral part of the national agenda, thus fostering a broader understanding of the importance of these commitments to Malaysia's overall strength.
