Russian drone killed five people on a scheduled minibus in southeastern Ukraine

A Russian drone strike on 16 September killed five people and injured at least seven others on a passenger minibus traveling along an intercity route in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, southeastern Ukraine. The oblast military administration reported the incident, with Oleksandr Handzha, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration, stating that five people died at the scene and at least seven were injured.

The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the attack, which was carried out by an FPV drone. Local officials, including Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, called the strike cynical, as it targeted ordinary citizens going about their daily lives. The attack also damaged infrastructure in the Nikopol district and Marhanets community, with no casualties reported.

Previous drone strikes in the region have resulted in fatalities and injuries, including a May incident in Dnipro that injured six people, including a child and a pregnant woman. War analysts believe Russian forces use civilian harm as an instrument of war in southern Ukraine rather than an unintended consequence.
