Police rescue teenager locked in toilet, arrest Rivers couple

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a couple for allegedly confining their 15-year-old house help, Amaechi, in a bathroom at their residence in Abuloma, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state. Amaechi, who originates from Ebonyi State, was liberated by Abuloma Police Division officers on Monday, September 14, following her manager's urgent report of her prolonged absence.

The unnamed couple is suspected of confining the girl for several weeks over an unspecified transgression. According to an informant, Amaechi was supplied with leftover meals once a day during her confinement, despite pleading for her release. Neighbors reportedly heard Amaechi's cries and alerted the authorities, leading to her rescue.

The Rivers State Police Command's spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident, stating that the landlord's observation triggered the girl's liberation. Agabe revealed, "The landlord noticed that the girl hadn't left the house for a while and reported it to the police. Our men arrived and rescued her from the house where she was locked in the toilet."

She further noted that the girl's family would not return her to the house where she was found. Agabe also stated that the investigation into the case is ongoing, and the couple will be arraigned when the investigation concludes.
