Parliamentary committee adopts confirmation hearing report for Supreme Court justice nominee

On Wednesday, a parliamentary committee endorsed a confirmation hearing report for prospective Supreme Court Justice Kim Sung-soo, clearing the path for his appointment to the nation's highest court. The endorsement followed a confirmation hearing on Monday, during which the special parliamentary committee deliberated on Kim's suitability.

In the report, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea commended Kim, praising his "sincere and thoughtful responses" that showcased his dedication to political impartiality and judicial independence. Conversely, the main opposition People Power Party contested his credentials, questioning his qualifications and commitment to maintaining neutrality as a Supreme Court justice.

The finalization of Kim's appointment is anticipated after a parliamentary plenary session vote expected Thursday. Subsequent to this vote, President Lee Jae Myung will formally appoint Kim to the Supreme Court. Should the approval be granted, Kim will become the inaugural Supreme Court justice to assume office under the Lee administration.
