Oluremi Tinubu gives Qur’anic competition winner N20m

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, recently presented a sum of N20 million to Maryam Ibrahim Dan'Azumi, the winner of the King Abdulaziz International Qur'anic Competition held in Saudi Arabia. Maryam, a student at Abubakar Siddiq Community School for Qur'anic Memorisation in Gombe State, emerged victorious in the second category of the competition, demonstrating exceptional skills in Quranic memorisation, recitation, Tajweed, and interpretation.

The 97.70 marks she scored in the competition were met with praise from the First Lady, who described Maryam as a source of pride for Nigerian women and the girl-child. Maryam's achievement was highlighted by a statement issued by the Government House of Gombe, which also mentioned that she had previously won the female category in the 40th National Qur'anic Recitation Competition held in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This is not the first time Maryam has shown excellence in Qur'anic studies, as her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan-Azumi, had previously won the 18th Hashemite Jordan International Qur'anic Competition for Females in Jordan in 2024. Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, led a delegation to present Maryam with her prize at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He emphasized the significance of Maryam's victory, stating that her achievement made both Gombe State and Nigeria proud.
