Officer who certified Rs 40,000 as Karnataka PSC chairman’s annual income faces arrest

A Bengaluru court on Tuesday denied the anticipatory bail plea of a government revenue inspector, Shivasharanappa, who is accused of providing a forged income certificate to the daughter of the suspended Karnataka Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman. Shivasharanappa now faces the possibility of arrest for allegedly certifying the family's annual income as a mere Rs 40,000 when in reality, it was Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

The fraudulent document was reportedly prepared for Sahukar's daughter, Suma Sahukar, who sought recruitment in the state Industries and Commerce Department under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category. Suma, 28, had already been granted anticipatory bail on September 8. The revenue inspector sought bail on the same day, but the court rejected his plea on Tuesday.

Suma was allegedly selected as an industrial extension officer under an OBC quota with the forged certificate. According to the First Information Report, the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) had called for recruitment of 50 industrial extension officers in March 2024, and Suma applied under the OBC III B category in July 2025, being selected in January 2026.
