New ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Trailer Puts Haymitch in ‘The Hunger Games’

The 50th Hunger Games looms on the horizon, and fans have their gaze firmly fixed on star Joseph Zada’s portrayal of Haymitch Abernathy. Lionsgate released an additional trailer for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" on Wednesday, offering viewers a glimpse of what tributes will endure in the second Quarter Quell. This prequel sees Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, alongside an impressive ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, and more.

The film, set in Panem 24 years prior to the events of the original series, follows Haymitch as he enters the arena and forms an unexpected bond with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Grace). Together, they join a coalition of tributes committed to defying the Capitol's authority under President Snow (Fiennes). As the competition heats up, Haymitch risks everything to dismantle the Games from within the arena, triggering a rebellion that will irrevocably alter Panem's fate.

Based on Suzanne Collins' 2025 dystopian novel of the same name, the movie is directed by Francis Lawrence, who returns to the franchise. It was produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Lawrence, with a screenplay penned by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie. "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" is slated for release on November 20.
