Legendary Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs dies aged 84

Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs, renowned for his illustrious career spanning theatre, television, and film, passed away at the age of 84. His wife, acclaimed actress Joke Silva, announced his death and requested privacy for the family as they mourn. Silva described her late husband as "The Lion of Lufodo," emphasizing a life well-lived and fought.

Jacobs, known as a father figure of Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, received widespread respect and admiration. Born on July 11, 1942, he was trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before pursuing a career that included roles in British television and international films. Jacobs' career, lasting over five decades, earned him prestigious awards such as the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and lifetime achievement honors.

He was also awarded the national recognition of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011 for his contributions to Nigeria's film industry. Jacobs and Silva co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, dedicated to nurturing the film, television, and performing arts in Nigeria. In recent years, due to health issues, Jacobs largely withdrew from the public eye.
