Kristo Asafo Bompata branch members allege post-funeral attacks

Members of the Bompata branch of the Kristo Asafo Mission in Ghana have accused the church's leadership of attacking those who attended the funeral of the church's late founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka. This claim was made by Kwame Asamoah, an elder of the church, during a press conference in Kumasi. According to him, many members have been threatened and hostilely treated whenever they try to enter the church for regular activities.

Asamoah recounted that one member was physically assaulted during a service and an elder was fired for observing a minute's silence in honor of the founder, which was unprecedented during the founder's time. He strongly condemned these actions, calling them unfair and against the values of unity and love espoused by the founder.

Asamoah blamed the current church leader, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, for not stopping these incidents despite knowing that some members did not support his leadership. He stated that the church's leadership branch has reported the incidents to the police and urged members not to be intimidated but to report any harassment. Meanwhile, Kwaku Boateng Agyenim, former General Secretary of the Kristo Asafo Mission, dismissed claims that Sarah Adwoa Safo, the founder's daughter, is plotting to take over the leadership.

He clarified that the founder had already designated one of his sons as the leader and that Sarah Adwoa Safo herself has made it clear she has no interest in leadership, as her father had already told her at age 13 that women do not occupy leadership positions in the church. Both Agyenim and Asamoah called for calm among members and urged the church leadership to adhere strictly to the constitution in selecting the next leader to maintain unity and peace within the church.
