KHNP wins EPRI Technology Transfer Award for wind power technology

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has been honored with the Technology Transfer Award (TTA) from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a non-profit consortium based in the United States, for its advancements in wind power technology. The accolade acknowledges the outcomes of a wind power performance enhancement project undertaken in collaboration with EPRI.

Under this project, KHNP devised an advanced engineering technology that employs machine learning to detect irregularities in turbine performance, pinpoint the root causes of efficiency loss, and devise strategies to augment output. The technology was subsequently deployed in wind farms located in the United States, where it played a pivotal role in identifying underperforming turbines, diagnosing the reasons behind their reduced efficiency, and formulating plans to boost performance.

KHNP intends to incorporate the software developed through this initiative into its day-to-day operations and continue refining it as an internal technology. This strategic move is anticipated to diminish the company's dependence on external engineering services and cut down on associated maintenance expenses while simultaneously enhancing the performance and efficiency of its wind power installations.
