Jindal Steel creates history with world's longest steel slag road, enters Guinness World Records

Jindal Steel has set a new world record by constructing the longest steel slag road in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. The 1.85-kilometre-long, four-lane road is made entirely from processed steel slag, a byproduct of the company's factories. This innovative project, which aligns with Jindal Steel's 'Waste to Wealth' vision, uses nearly 2 lakh tonnes of steel slag, reducing the need for natural stone excavation and mining.

The road is designed to withstand heavy commercial vehicles and offers significant savings in resources and costs - around 35% thinner and 40% cheaper to build than traditional roads. Jindal Steel collaborated with scientists from CSIR and the Road Research Institute to process the steel slag into high-quality aggregates suitable for road construction.

The project underwent rigorous environmental testing before approval. Jindal Steel Chairman Naveen Jindal emphasized that India's progress should be driven by innovative, environmentally-friendly experiments. The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, hailed the project as a 'Waste to Wealth' initiative that showcases the power of indigenous technology to tackle the nation's challenges.

Jindal Steel has christened the processed slag 'Steel Grit' and unveiled its logo at the event. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to promote the use of this technology in road construction across the country.
