India news Live Updates, 16 September 2026: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s London event called off over safety concerns

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C Joseph Vijay, cancelled a fan event outside The Shard in London on Tuesday due to safety concerns raised by the Metropolitan Police. Hundreds of supporters who had waited in line for hours were left disappointed when the event was abruptly halted. A spokesperson for the Chief Minister announced over a megaphone: "For public safety concerns, we are calling off the programme because we don't have permission."

During his visit to the UK, Vijay is leading a state trade delegation that has signed Memorandums of Understanding valued at approximately Rs 12,300 crore, expected to create over 9,400 jobs in Tamil Nadu and establish the state as a center for advanced manufacturing and technology. He is set to return to India on Wednesday.
