How QB LJ Funk fit in at Pearl-Cohn after moving from Brentwood High

Josef LJ Funk, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior quarterback, made the decision to transfer from Brentwood High School to Pearl-Cohn High School. At Pearl-Cohn, Funk quickly earned the starting quarterback position over a senior teammate the first season he was there, leading the Firebirds to the TSSAA Class 4A semifinals. Funk's performance that year was impressive, completing 67.3% of his passes for 2,902 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions while also adding three rushing scores to his repertoire. Funk's transition to Pearl-Cohn wasn't initially planned. He admitted to The Tennessean, "I never even thought about it (Pearl-Cohn). I really want to do that (join Pearl-Cohn) after my father received a phone call from Landan Left's father, whose son had transferred from Montgomery Bell Academy to Pearl-Cohn." Funk's father rented an apartment in Nashville, Funk transferred schools, and the rest was history.
