“How I escaped death” – Lone survivor of gunmen attack on Plateau bus narrates experience

The lone survivor of a gunmen attack on a passenger bus near Dungus Junction in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State narrated his harrowing experience to newsmen. Nasiru Garba, the conductor of the commercial vehicle, revealed how he managed to survive the attack that claimed the lives of 12 other passengers, including the driver.

Garba recounted that the vehicle was en route from Riyom to Jos when it stopped at the Dungus Junction to disembark passengers. After the passengers alighted, the driver exited the bus to collect the fare. At that moment, the attackers stormed the bus from the bushes, opening fire on both the passengers who had already left and those still inside.

Garba described how he instinctively dove down in the vehicle, pretending to be injured, in an attempt to blend in with the others who had succumbed to the gunfire. The assailants approached the bus, opened the front door, and searched the dead passengers, taking their money, phones, and other valuables before fleeing into the surrounding bushes.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth-Moulders Association, also spoke about the incident. He confirmed that the attack occurred around 9.40 p.m. and that the victims were all passengers heading to Jos. Among the deceased was a member of Operation Rainbow. Tengwong expressed his sorrow over the loss of life and noted that the bus was later discovered covered in blood and littered with bullet holes.
