Google Home MCP lets Antigravity, Claude, OpenClaw, & more control your smart home

Google has introduced "Home MCP," a new system enabling personal AI agents such as Google Antigravity, Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, and others to communicate using the Model Context Protocol with smart home devices in the Google Home ecosystem. These devices include Nest cameras, doorbells, thermostats, and Matter light bulbs. The primary aim is to empower your agent with "real-world physical context," enabling them to analyze and answer questions about home activity, summarize camera footage across rooms, manage devices, and even create customized smart home dashboards using everyday language.

Google has implemented rate limits and safety protections to prevent sensitive actions, such as unlocking doors. However, the effectiveness of Home MCP may vary depending on the agent used, as improper configuration could lead to unexpected or undesired behavior. To set up Home MCP, users must create a Google Cloud project and configure it accordingly.

Once configured, users simply need to provide the MCP configuration details to their agent and ask it to set it up. After granting necessary permissions, users can begin using the system.
