Gohar slams Punjab police for mistreating Afridi

On Tuesday, interim Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan criticized Punjab police for failing to ensure the safety of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during his visit to Punjab. Khan expressed regret over the treatment of a provincial chief executive, stating that such behavior could fuel hatred.

Afridi received a warm reception from the public during his visit to Lahore, which marked Khan's family's designated visitation day and that of his legal team at Dahagal checkpoint near Adial jail. However, neither family members nor the legal team were granted access to meet Afridi.

Khan alleged that Sohail Afridi was taken away in a vehicle without proper security. He emphasized that the provincial government was responsible for providing security to a chief minister visiting another province. Khan reiterated the PTI's peaceful stance and commitment to justice, adding that the apex court had ordered the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital, but the order had not yet been implemented.

When asked about backdoor contacts, Khan denied any negotiations with the government and stressed the need for dialogue to move towards a positive direction.

The barrister also criticized the Supreme Court for turning Imran Khan's health issue into a constitutional crisis, urging against the frivolous use of the founder's health problem. Khan denied any meetings between Imran Khan and high-level personalities or senior figures while in jail and rejected the notion that PTI planned to march on Islamabad or block roads. He reassured that PTI workers would come peacefully, unarmed, and with the sole intent of seeking justice and expressing their patriotic sentiments.
