GES releases outstanding 2023 Capitation Grant arrears to basic schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has recently released outstanding 2023 Capitation Grant arrears to basic schools across the country. In a letter dated September 14, 2026, the Service informed Regional Directors that the funds had been transferred to the respective district accounts for onward distribution to the schools. Management emphasized the importance of ensuring that the funds reach the schools before the reopening of the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year, in order to facilitate a smooth start to the new academic year.

The transfers also encompassed the Sports and Culture component for District Offices, with corresponding allocations made to the Regional offices. GES has appointed a monitoring team to assess the transfer of funds in each region, urging authorities to expedite the disbursement of the funds to the schools. The Capitation Grant is a crucial support mechanism for public basic schools, helping to alleviate financial barriers to accessing basic education.
