Gelar DAP ‘musuh utama’ Umno, ahli majlis MBSP letak jawatan

In a resignation letter addressed to Exco H’ng Mooi Lye, Permatang Pauh Umno President Zaidi Said expressed his remorse and apologized for his statement during a recent Umno general assembly meeting, where he labeled the DAP as the party's main adversary. The message, shared on Facebook, requested H’ng’s forgiveness and relinquishment of his position, acknowledging his mistake.

H’ng also shared the resignation letter with Malaysian Prime Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Perak Umno President Musa Sheikh Fadzir, and MBSP Chief Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid.

In the letter dated September 14, Zaidi acknowledged the need for a more cautious approach when expressing views about the government party alliance following his re-examination of the Umno statement. He admitted that his comments highlighted the importance of considering the appropriateness of an individual's statements, especially when assuming responsibility for shared state administration.

Zaidi further emphasized that the decision to relinquish his position was his own choice, without any coercion from any party. He willingly transferred the responsibility to the party to nominate a replacement and continue the relevant responsibilities and duties.

Zaidi admitted that the general assembly of Umno should not have been used as a platform to express views that could create misunderstandings or misperceptions about the DAP, particularly in the context of cooperation and state administration in Penang. He recognized that Umno and DAP have separate histories, principles, political approaches, and ideologies that have evolved over the years, and building mutual understanding and finding common ground requires time, discernment, maturity, and mutual respect from all parties.

During the Umno general assembly meeting, Zaidi claimed that Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi's strategy of cooperation with PKR aimed to weaken the DAP, which ultimately affected their coalition partner, DAP. He stated that the DAP, seen as the main adversary of Umno, cannot be defeated directly as it has its own voter support.
