Gelar DAP ‘musuh utama’ Umno, ahli majlis MBSP letak jawatan

In a resignation letter addressed to Exco H’ng Mooi Lye, Permatang Pauh Umno Chief Zaidi Said expressed his remorse and apologized for his speech at a grand gathering of his party, where he labeled DAP as the main adversary. In a Facebook post, Pinang Exco H’ng Mooi Lye thanked Zaidi for willing to apologize and release his position, accepting responsibility for his mistake.

H’ng also shared a copy of Zaidi's resignation letter with him, forwarded to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Umno Penang Chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir, and MBSP Mayor Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid. In the letter dated September 14, Zaidi stated that after revisiting his speech at the Umno gathering, he realized the need for a more cautious approach when voicing opinions about the ruling coalition party.

"I declare with full responsibility, regret, and apologies for the statement I made," he wrote. Zaidi acknowledged that the decision to resign was his own, without any pressure from any party. "I hereby surrender to the party to nominate another individual to fill this vacancy and continue with the relevant duties," he added. The speaker admitted that the grand Umno gathering should not be used as a platform to voice opinions that could create a perception or misunderstanding about DAP, particularly in the context of cooperation and governance in Penang.

He also realized that Umno and DAP have different histories, political principles, approaches, and ideologies, and building mutual understanding and finding common ground requires time, wisdom, maturity, and mutual respect from all parties. At the grand Umno gathering last weekend, Zaidi claimed that Umno President Zahid Hamidi's strategy to work with PKR aimed to weaken DAP, which would ultimately affect their affiliate, DAP.

He said DAP, seen as the main adversary of Umno, cannot be defeated directly because the party has its own voter support.
