Gaza apartment block collapses, killing eight; rescuers search for dozens missing

Gaza rescuers laboring through the rubble of a recently bombed apartment building discovered the tragic loss of 12 lives, among them five young children, when the seven-story structure crumbled to the ground overnight. This devastating occurrence underscores the persistent peril faced by thousands of Palestinians residing in approximately 2,000 buildings damaged by Israeli airstrikes in the region.

According to rescue workers from the civil defense, the collapse of the seven-story building claimed the lives of at least 12 individuals, including five children, while leaving 14 others injured. Dozens more were trapped beneath the debris, as evidenced by a video obtained by Reuters, which depicted rescue personnel attempting to extricate two individuals from under a collapsed wall.

In another video circulating on social media, Gaza's civil defense spokesperson, Mahmoud Basal, could be seen carrying a young girl, her body covered in a blood-stained scarf, in his arms. Raed Al-Dahshan, the director of Gaza City's civil defense service, reported that the collapsed building housed at least 10 families, and there remained a glimmer of hope for locating survivors.
