F1 announces 2027 calendar - with Monaco among 10 sprint races

Formula 1 has expanded its 2027 World Championship calendar, adding ten Sprint races across 22 countries and five continents. The FIA Formula One World Championship will now consist of 24 rounds, with the number of Sprint events increasing from six to ten. The World Motor Sport Council approved the revised schedule, which the F1 organization claims supports long-term sustainability goals through an efficient distribution of events globally.

Testing commences in Bahrain from February 24 to 27, with the championship opener also held in the same location. The season then progresses through Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, China, Miami, Canada, Portugal, Türkiye, and concludes in Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Notably, Monaco will host two qualifying sessions in 2027, doubling its Sprint race presence.

The expanded Sprint program is the main addition to the revised calendar. Formula 1 cites data showing that Sprint weekends attract 12 percent more viewers than regular weekends. Additionally, Sprint Qualifying is three times more popular with fans than Free Practice sessions. Furthermore, 82 percent of attendees at Sprint weekends report they add value to their ticket, while 75 percent believe Sprint events enhance the overall value of the season's calendar.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed excitement about welcoming Portugal and Türkiye to the championship and expanding Sprint racing to ten events. Domenicali emphasized that the new calendar combines tradition, innovation, and fan engagement while maintaining the highest sporting standards. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem framed the schedule as evidence of the sport's global reach, citing the return of Portugal and Türkiye alongside the potential for an expanded Sprint program.
