F1 to have 10 sprint races in 2027, including Monaco

Formula 1 has announced that the 2027 World Championship will include 10 sprint races, up from the previous maximum of six. These sprint events will take place in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, Abu Dhabi, Canada, Britain, Italy, Brazil, and Qatar. The Bahrain Grand Prix is scheduled to be the opening race, while the season will conclude in Qatar.

However, the races in Bahrain and Qatar are currently in doubt due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Five new locations will host sprint races for the first time: Canada, Britain, Italy, Brazil, and Qatar. Monaco will also host a sprint event for the first time, despite its challenging street circuit, as it will feature two qualifying sessions, providing increased variability and excitement.

F1 President Stefano Domenicali expressed his enthusiasm for expanding the sprint programme and welcoming Portugal and Turkey to the championship. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem highlighted the calendar's reflection of the sport's global appeal and continued growth, with 24 grands prix across five continents. Pre-season testing is planned for Bahrain from February 24-27.
