Dubai approves 80km Fourth Corridor to cut travel time

Dubai has approved the construction of an 80km Fourth Corridor, a new road link aimed at improving travel times and connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum gave the nod to the project, which will run from Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah. The first phase is expected to cost Dh3.5 billion.

The 12-lane Fourth Corridor will be capable of handling up to 24,000 vehicles per hour in either direction, with a capacity to serve over 3.1 million residents. The expansive new route will incorporate 72 bridges, 17 tunnels, and 45 stormwater drainage culverts, forming a significant transportation artery across the UAE.

In addition to the road improvements, the Fourth Corridor will link up with Al Maktoum International Airport and Etihad Rail, enhancing intermodal connectivity between road, rail, and air transport. This major infrastructure development will bolster Dubai's logistics and commercial transport sectors by improving access to key residential, industrial, commercial, and transport hubs.

By expanding and modernizing Dubai's road network, the Fourth Corridor is part of the emirate's broader strategy to enhance inter-emirate connectivity and facilitate the movement of people and goods. The project aligns with Dubai's ongoing efforts to develop and upgrade its transportation infrastructure while streamlining regional travel and commerce.
