De la Fuente extends Spain contract to 2032

Luis de la Fuente, the World Cup-winning head coach of Spain, has extended his contract with the national team until 2032. The 65-year-old's previous agreement was set to conclude in 2028. De la Fuente, who led Spain to their fourth European Championship title in 2024 and global accolades this summer, will now continue to guide the team through their World Cup defense at home in 2030.

Spain will co-host the 24th men's World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco, with additional matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay as part of the tournament's 100th anniversary festivities.

De la Fuente took over as head coach in December 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique following Spain's last-16 exit at the 2022 World Cup. Under his leadership, the team has lost only twice in 41 competitive matches and secured three major trophies, including the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League and the 2024-25 European Championship, where they finished as runners-up to Portugal.

De la Fuente's impressive track record speaks for itself, as confirmed by RFEF president Rafael Louzan, who praised the coach's contributions and work during the recent World Football Summit in Madrid. The public has shown their love and admiration for De la Fuente, leading to the extension of his contract beyond the financial top 10.

De la Fuente has been with Spain for 14 years, and Louzan expressed his desire for the coach to complete his career with the national team. Spain's next match is scheduled for September 26th, when they will face England in their 2026-27 Nations League opener at Wembley Stadium.
