De la Fuente extends Spain contract to 2032

Luis de la Fuente, the victorious World Cup head coach for Spain, has agreed to a new contract extension that will keep him in charge until 2032. The 65-year-old had originally been set to leave his position in 2028. De la Fuente led Spain to a fourth European Championship title in 2024, followed by global success this summer. He is now prepared to continue guiding Spain during their World Cup defense in 2030, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with additional matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay as part of the competition's centennial celebrations.

De la Fuente took over as head coach in December 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique after Spain's last-16 exit at that year's World Cup. Under his leadership, Spain has won three trophies since, including the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League and a 2024-25 runner-up finish to Portugal. Spain's World Cup triumph in July, following a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time, marked their second men's World Cup title.

RFEF president Rafael Louzan praised de la Fuente's achievements and work, emphasizing the public's admiration for him. The extension of his contract was finalized to ensure his continued service to the Spanish national team for several more years. Spain's next match is scheduled for September 26th, where they will face England in their 2026-27 Nations League opener at Wembley.
