Cop among 5 killed in armed attack on Shafiq Mengal's Khuzdar camp

Quetta, Pakistan witnessed a deadly armed attack on Wednesday that left five individuals dead and one injured near the Quetta-Karachi highway in Khuzdar district. Police spokesperson Abdulfateh reported that the assailants targeted a camp belonging to PPP leader Mir Shafiqur Rehman Mengal, a tribal elder and head of the Jhalawan Awami Panel.

Notably, Mengal was absent during the attack. The SHO described how armed men on motorbikes arrived and commenced firing at a security checkpoint operated by Mengal’s camp. This incident resulted in the deaths of four security guards before the attackers kidnapped a policeman. Tragically, the policeman was subsequently killed and left behind.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hayee, Naimatullah, Yahya, Naseer Ahmed, and Constable Noor Muhammad. Obaidullah, a hospital employee, sustained bullet injuries during the assault. Upon the incident, law enforcement arrived at the scene and transported the bodies and the wounded to the district hospital. A search operation subsequently began to locate the attackers, but no group had claimed responsibility as of yet.

In July, a suicide attack at Mengal’s residence in Khuzdar claimed the lives of 17 individuals, including police personnel, and injured more than two dozen others.
