Border Crossed, Identities Changed, Passports Secured As Special Task Force Unravels Fake Passport Racket In Bhopal

In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a fake passport racket has been unraveled by a Special Task Force (STF) investigation, revealing the identities of mastermind Riyal Choudhary and other Bangladeshi immigrants who exploited the process to their advantage. These individuals employed a layered strategy, initially entering India from Bangladesh through jungle and river routes, only to later settle in Assam or other parts of India, all while crafting a web of false identities.

Riyal Choudhary, among others, claimed Assam as his birthplace and provided supporting documents to dodge suspicion during passport verification.

The investigation has uncovered that 70 fake passports were issued through this operation, with more than 40 of them tied to an address at Ashok Bauddh Vihar in Bhopal. A majority of these passports were granted during the Covid-19 pandemic, as suspects capitalized on the pandemic's protocols and restrictions to secure documents without rigorous physical verification.

Mobile phone data from the suspects indicates trips to countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China, which appears to have been undertaken for leisure rather than religious tourism. However, there is currently no evidence suggesting a terrorist connection or any other motive in the case. STF officials are continuing their search for other members of the racket in Assam and other states, having already arrested four individuals, including Riyal Choudhary.
